Organizational Behaviour Essentials
As we have stated in the previous chapters, organizational behaviour concerns itself with the interaction between organizations and its employees, between employees and their colleagues and seniors, and with group interactions. It studies the psychology and sociology of these relationships among other things and develops theories and guidelines on how to optimize these relationships and dealings. An organization which would like to understand and fructify its organizational behaviour needs to deal with a few essentials prior to establishing these principles. Each organization lives and works in its unique environment. It may deal in the same products or systems as many other similar organizations, but the employee components may be different, the culture backgrounds may differ and above all the management style will probably be different. Hence, let us study some of the common essentials that need to be studied before establish the OB principles of the organization:
Proper research: Do a survey of the members of the organization. Quantify and tabulate them according to their cultures, diversity, attitudes, psychological profiles etc. Understand the visions and goals of the company and how these will affect the majority of its workforce. Document and communicate these initiatives : Once you have laid down your organizational behaviour principles; after having taken into account the workforce and the organizational structure, document them. These principles are going to affect the lives and the productivity of all your members, so it is important to communicate them to the workforce. They are an important component of this process and they, above all, need to understand how it is going to impact their lives for the better. Implement these initiatives : A follow-up on the implementation of these initiatives is an essential part of the whole process. All managers and seniors need to follow-up on the implementation of these initiatives. Frequent interactions between all segments of the organization are needed to sort out any problems that may arise. Motivate your employees and build a team: Motivation is one of the essentials of any project. Build a good team and motivate them to make sure that they implement these principles. If you have been able to communicate to them the reasons behind the principles, motivation will be an automatic byproduct.
Organizational behaviour principles are often based on the ethics and ethos of any organization. They help build an atmosphere of creativity and motivation in an organization. But any principles which are not based on good research, and which do not take into account the ethos of the workforce, will only succeed partially. Hence it is important to keep the essentials in mind before laying down these guidelines.
